Empire State observatory to reopen Sept. 29

NEW YORK -- The Empire State Building's 86th floor observatory was set to reopen Sept. 29, offering visitors a view from what now is the city's tallest skyscraper.

The observation deck has been closed to the public since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks destroyed the World Trade Center's twin towers.

The observatory will be open on Sept. 29 and 30 from 9:30 a.m. to midnight. It will close again Oct. 1 to 5 and then reopen for the Columbus Day holiday weekend.

The top of the building will remain illuminated in red, white and blue through the end of November.
