Endless Summer boosts off-season

NEW YORK -- The Puerto Rico Tourism Co. said last year's Endless Summer Sounds promotion gave the island an increase in hotel business.

From April through December 1998, there was a 22% increase in business from Illinois and Connecticut, 13% from Florida, 10% from Pennsylvania, 8% from New Jersey and New York and 6% from Georgia.

Overall, hotel business increased by 12%. Jorge Davila, the PRTC's executive director, said the hotel increases represented a significant leap forward for Puerto Rico to be recognized as a year-round destination.

PRTC to host agent seminars

NEW YORK -- The Puerto Rico Tourism Co.'s series of Spotlight Seminars will be held in April and May. The seminars are accredited by the Institute of Certified Travel Agents for 4.5 continuing education credits.

Dates and locations follow:

  • April 28 in Houston.
  • April 29 in Dallas.
  • May 3 in Stamford, Conn., and Los Angeles.
  • May 4 in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., as well as New York and San Diego.
  • May 5 in Atlanta, Millbrae, Calif., and Tinton Falls, N.J.
  • May 6 in Las Vegas, Washington and Charlotte, N.C.
  • May 10 in Pittsburgh.
  • May 11 in Bridgeton, Mo.
  • May 12 in Bloomington, Minn., and Long Island, N.Y.
  • May 13 in Chicago.
