Experts predict stormy weather

MIAMI -- The 1999 hurricane season, which officially started on June 1 and runs through Nov. 30, is likely to be another brutal one for the Caribbean and southeastern U.S. coastal areas, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Officials predicted 14 named storms, of which nine will develop into hurricanes. Four of the nine will be intense storms in the category 3 or higher range (sustained winds up to 130 mph, accompanied by tidal surges, flooding and heavy roof and foliage damage).
