Fairmont Southampton spruces up property

SOUTHAMPTON, Bermuda -- The 593-room Fairmont Southampton reopened this spring after undergoing $60 million in renovations.

The resort, one of the islands upscale properties, had been closed for seven months after Hurricane Fabian devastated much of the island in the fall of 2003.

As part of the rehabilitation, the resort installed a hurricane-resistant roof and redid the Willow Stream Spa and the Fairmont Gold Lounge. The pool area, tennis courts and beach cabana also were redone, along with 483 of the resorts rooms.

In addition, the Fairmont added Bacci, an Italian restaurant with seating for up to 96 guests, to its list of restaurants. Bacci joins the Whaler Inn, where guests can dine on seafood; the Waterlot Inn, which serves steaks and chops; and the Newport Room, which offers a continental cuisine.

Room rates for the Fairmont Southampton, from Oct. 22 through Nov. 26, will be $379 for a Fairmont room (standard room with either king bed or two double beds), based on single or double occupancy, and $869 for a one-bedroom suite. Winter rates are in effect from Nov. 27 through March. Winter rates are $259 for a double and $609 for a one-bedroom suite.
