Family travel an icon on tourist board Web site

NASSAU, Bahamas -- The Nassau-Cable Beach-Paradise Island Promotion Board launched a family travel section on its Web site at

Michael Rigg, executive director of the board, said the development of the site shows "the importance of the family market to our destination." Last year, about 300,000 families vacationed in the Nassau area, he said.

"We are committed to enhancing the reputation of Nassau-Cable Beach-Paradise Island as a top choice for family vacationers," Rigg said.

A children's camp is operated by the Radisson Cable Beach Resort, Nassau, an all-inclusive property. An icon on the home page links browsers to a family travel page that gives tips on how to organize a family vacation.

Seven other icons depict hotels that feature children's programs, vacation guides, family dining, activities, special deals, frequently asked questions and a cultural program that puts families in touch with their local counterparts.

The vacation guides offer suggested itineraries, ranging from one to seven days and grouped by kids' ages, activities and location.

Under the family dining section, parents can check out a range of restaurants with children's menus.

The activities section provides a list that includes cruises, walking tours and a visit to the Bahama Craft Centre.

The People-to-People program also is an option that offers visiting families the opportunity to meet a Bahamian family and learn about their culture and way of life.

The site, which launched in September 2000, averages approximately 250,000 monthly hits, can be accessed directly or via the Bahamas site at

To reserve or book packages on the Web site, agents can call Destination Bahamas at (800) 4-BAHAMAS.
