Film festival set to kick off May 31 at Wailea resort

WAILEA, Hawaii -- The Maui Film Festival is set for May 31 through June 3 at the Wailea resort.

Visitors can buy packages of tickets to see movies at the festival and to attend parties and events, or they can simply buy tickets to individual films.

And Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays is selling air, hotel and car packages that include movie and event tickets.

The Wailea resort area has five hotels, nine condominium resorts and seven clusters of rental homes.

Event tickets range in price from $10 for one movie to $495 for a full package of tickets and parties.

The $495 package includes admission to all the premieres, filmmaker panel discussions, a midnight ocean cruise, opening and closing night parties and other events.

In addition to the films, the festival has a daily roster of events and parties.

On May 31 at 7:30 p.m., there will be a premiere movie shown at the Celestial Cinema set up on the Wailea Golf Club driving range.

In addition to the movie there will be music, Hawaiian story telling and hula.

That night at 11 p.m. there will be an opening-night party at the SeaWatch restaurant in Wailea.

On June 1, 2 and 3 there will be two movies shown each day at the Castle Theater in Kahului, a filmmakers panel at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center in Kahului, a main premiere at the theater set up on the golf course in Wailea and an evening or afternoon party or event.

Pleasant Hawaiian is selling land-only and air-inclusive packages to the film festival.

Packages include a lei greeting, accommodations and movie and event tickets.

A six-day, land-only package, for example, costs $1,416 per person, double, in a terrace-view room at the Grand Wailea Resort.
