Florida fires shut interstate

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- At least 60 miles of Interstate 75, part of a major link between here and Naples, was shut because of Everglades wildfires that had consumed at least 170,000 acres.

The fires were about 10 miles from the Miccosukee reservation, site of a new hotel, gambling casino and other tourist facilities. Visitors to South Florida's Atlantic beaches were experiencing a slight haze, but no recreational activities were reported disrupted.
