Florida hotel gets face-lift, name change

In addition to changing its name from the Floridian Hotel Orlando to the Clarion Floridian Hotel Orlando, the 303-room property completed a $4 million renovation.

"Every guest room was renovated. We redid our pool. We added a sun deck and two Jacuzzis," said Steve Cook, general manager.

Meeting space -- about 3,000 square feet -- also was redone, and the restaurant was refurbished and renamed Sharky and Jack's Bar and Grill. "When we converted to a Clarion, we wanted to go after a more upscale clientele and offer more amenities," Cook said.

Guests are predominantly leisure travelers. Rates range from $89 per night, double, to $140 for suites to Dec. 25. After Dec. 26, there is a minimum stay of seven nights during the millennium period. These rates apply then as well.

Travel agents book about one-third of the hotel's business, Cook said, noting that the hotel's proximity to Universal Studios Escape is a plus, since many guests are Universal-bound. The complex is about one mile away.

Group rates are available, as are seasonal discounts.
