FORT LAUDERDALE -- The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention &
Visitors Bureau has identified four areas of tourist activity and
introduced related packages, all of which can be booked by agents.
"Agents can make reservations, do the vouchering, all by calling
one number. It's like one-stop shopping," said Lee Levering,
executive director for leisure sales and marketing for the Greater
Fort Lauderdale CVB.
The four areas are pre- and post-cruises, scuba diving, arts and
entertainment and golf.
"If somebody wants to book a golf package, they can add scuba
diving, for example," he said.
Information from agents, including a group of visiting ASTA
board members from New Jersey, led to creation of the packages,
The bureau created its packages in conjunction with Compass
Distribution, a Clearwater, Fla.-based promotions and fulfillment
company, which is a division of Tampa, Fla.-based Paradigm
"We came up with the niche markets, such as scuba and golf, and
[Compass] helped with the nitty-gritty on how to do that," said a
spokeswoman for the bureau.
"We had pre- and post-cruise packages before, but this was the
first time we went into the other niche markets," said a spokesman

offered three choices: They can have vacation planners mailed to
them, they can have information sent by fax, or they can book a
