Four small hotels, form marketing group

HONOLULU -- Four smaller Hawaii hotels and resorts teamed up to form a marketing group called Hideaways Hawaii. Members are:

  • The Mauian Hotel at Napili in west Maui.
  • The Ilima Hotel in Waikiki.
  • Hanalei Colony Resort at Haena on Kauai's north shore.
  • The Chalet Kilauea Collection, with 30 units in bed-and- breakfast facilities and vacation homes outside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
  • The group is preparing a campaign, beginning this month, that will include programs ranging from joint representation at trade shows to direct mailIt is creating a Web site, www.hideaways-hawaii.com, with links to each property's Internet site. "We can share costs and become more effective in promotion and getting the word out. We have similar pricing, and not many know us," said Phil Sammer, Ilima Hotel's general manager.

    Said Brian Crawford, owner of the Chalet Kilauea Collection, "We're all small and privately owned and offer the personalized service and intimate vacation experience that you get from such properties. And, in reality, we all need more business."

  • The Ilima Hotel has 99 studios and one- and two-bedroom suites, all with full kitchens. The 17-story property, on Waikiki's Nohonani Street, two blocks from the beach, features a heated pool, a sauna and exercise room, a conference room and a restaurant and bar.
  • Rates range from $95 to $295, with a $12 per night surcharge through March 31.

  • The 40-year-old oceanfront Mauian, in two-story buildings on two acres, is owned by the Aluli family. The hotel has 44 studios with fully equipped kitchens. It has a weekly cocktail party, a meeting room, a pool and a family room with large-screen television, library and board games (rooms do not have telephones or televisions). Rates, including continental breakfast, begin at $145 until March 31 and $125 from April 1 to Dec. 22.
  • Hanalei Colony Resort has 48 two-bedroom condominium units in 13 two-story buildings.
  • The beachfront condominium has a pool and Jacuzzi, barbecue and picnic areas and complimentary continental breakfast twice weekly. Units do not have televisions or phones. Rates range from $130 to $215; from $150 to $240 between June 1 to Sept. 8.

  • The Chalet Kilauea Collection has three bed-and-breakfast facilities, five vacation homes, a restaurant and a cafe in Volcano village. Rates range from $45 to $395.
