From Tokyo to Jakarta, summer deals abound

NEW YORK -- Summertime in Asia means hot hotel deals.

The following is a sample of what's available throughout the region.

  • The Shangri-La hotel group is handing out discount vouchers to all guests who pay corporate rates and above for their rooms.
  • The vouchers can be redeemed at any participating Shangri-La or Traders hotel until Aug. 31.

    The vouchers entitle guests to one of the following benefits: a room upgrade; up to $50 credit on food and beverages or other charges (excluding the room rate); double air miles with participating frequent flyer partners when guests pay corporate rates, and quadruple air miles with participating frequent flyer partners when guests pay nondiscounted rates.

    The Island Shangri-La Hotel in Hong Kong is handing out discount vouchers to all guests who pay corporate rates and more for their rooms. There are no blackout dates, and guests can obtain multiple vouchers each time they stay at a Shangri-La or Traders hotel.

  • The Portman Ritz-Carlton hotel in Shanghai is marketing a Shanghai Summer Side-Up package until Aug. 31.
  • The package costs $195 per night, single, and $215, double.

    Guests can choose two complimentary benefits from a list that includes an upgrade to a Club Room with access to a private lounge and concierge; limousine airport transfers; a 10% discount on food and beverages, including room service; 20% off laundry service, and a 45-minute massage at the hotel's health club.

    The 564-room hotel is located in the Shanghai Centre, a retail, dining and entertainment complex on Nanjing Road in the heart of the city.

    Facilities include a health club with a swimming pool, a fitness center, an indoor tennis court, squash and racquetball courts and a 24-hour business center.

  • The Pan Pacific Glenmarie hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which features butler service, is promoting a Pacific Plus Business package until Dec. 30.
  • Under the plan, guests pay $60 per night for a single or double room and $180 for a suite.

    The package includes 10% off certain beverages, 20% off laundry and dry cleaning, 10% off local telephone calls and 10% off business center services.

    Guests also receive daily breakfast, a shoe shine and a daily copy of the International Herald Tribune.

  • The Marco Polo hotel chain is marketing reduced rates until Sept. 30 under the Amazing Miles program.
  • Offering Amazing Miles rates for single rooms are: the Marco Polo Hong Kong, $100; the Marco Polo Xiamen, China, $90; the Marco Polo Davao, the Philippines, $48, and the Omni Saigon Hotel in Vietnam, $72.

    In addition, the package includes one of the following: a free room upgrade, one-way airport transfer or bonus frequent flyer miles.

    The package also includes late checkout, free local calls and a daily newspaper. American Express cardholders can also upgrade their room for free.

  • Hyatt is offering rooms for up to 50% off under its Great Deal summertime promotion, which expires Aug. 31.
  • Examples of the promotional rates (per room, double) are Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, $130; Grand Hyatt Taipei (Taiwan), $162; Grand Hyatt Seoul (South Korea), $161; Grand Hyatt Singapore, $156; Hyatt Regency Manila (Philippines), $78.

  • The Singapore Marriott Hotel is promoting reduced rates until Sept. 30.
  • The rates are $125 for a deluxe room, $133 for a deluxe room with daily buffet breakfast, $153 for an executive room with daily breakfast, coffee and tea service plus evening cocktails.

    The rates include free local phone calls, morning newspaper, use of the fitness center and late checkout.

    It also includes free use of a notebook PC and fax/printer in the room upon request.
