HILO, Hawaii -- Getaway Adventures of Napa, Calif., again is offering its eight Pedal Through Paradise bicycling tours of the Big Island, starting in November.

The company pays 12% commission.

It has offered the trips for six years now, according to co-owner Randy Johnson.

The tours are seven nights roundtrip from Hilo, or five nights with a start in Hilo and a departure from Kona.

Five-night, land-only prices are $1,479, while seven-night prices are $1,829.

Tours are scheduled for Nov. 19, Dec. 24, Jan. 7 and 21, Feb. 4 and 20, and March 4 and 18.

Getaway supplies the bikes and offers a selection of hybrids (mountain bikes, usually, mounted with slick street tires), touring bikes and bicycles built for two.

"Our average group is from 8 to 12 people," said Johnson. "You don't feel like you're part of a huge group."

Johnson said the trip is flexible for guests who want activities other than what is scheduled each day.

"If someone wants to do some mountain biking or some extra hiking, we will arrange that," said Johnson.

The tour starts in Hilo, and participants ride 30 to 50 miles each day.

Stays are in hotels, lodges and bed and breakfasts.

The full tour goes around the island, visiting Pahoa and the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park; the hot and dry Kona side of the island; the lush Waipio Valley on the north side, Waimea, and back down the Hamakua Coast into Hilo.
