Glass-floored hotel opens on Sydney Harbour

SYDNEY, Australia -- Southern Pacific Hotel Corp. opened a property on a 90-year-old restored pier on Sydney Harbour.

The Pier One Parkroyal Sydney Harbour has a glass floor in the lobby so guests can see the water below.

It has 164 rooms and is adjacent to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Nearby, visitors find the Circular Quay, a commuting hub and recreational area with walkways, restaurants and parks; the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Sydney Opera House.

The hotel has a workout room, two restaurants, a lounge, a car rental outlet, a theater and show booking service and two meetings rooms that can accommodate up to 60. The hotel has eight categories of rooms.

A room with a water view runs about $315 per night, and a room with a bridge view costs about $283 per night.

The hotel is 10 miles from the Sydney airport, nine miles from the main 2000 Olympics venue and one mile from the Botanic Gardens.

Southern Pacific Hotel Corp. was recently sold to U.K.-based Bass Hotels.
