Glassblowing Attraction Hits Cayman

GEORGE TOWN -- A new attraction here is very popular and very hot -- literally.

The Cayman Glassblowing Studio, which opened earlier this year, contains a furnace that operates at 1,832 degrees.

Located on North Church Street, a three-minute walk from the cruise ship dock and central George Town, the studio features a viewing area where visitors can watch the glassblowers work with molten glass.

Cayman Glassblowing uses traditional methods and techniques unchanged from centuries-old processes, according to Tom Carter, a partner in the company.

An adjoining, air-conditioned store features an array of old and new glass.

Admission to the studio is free.
