NORWALK, Conn. -- The first International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) set for Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Dec. 4 to 6, so far has 100 golf tour operator and meeting planner buyers registered as well as 150 exhibiting companies, according to Karen Vogel Mikstay, exhibition director-Americas for Reed Travel Exhibitions, the show's producer.

Attendees who register late must prove they are qualified -- "meaning that they must already sell golf packages," she said.

The Wyndham Resort & Spa is the host hotel.

Mikstay said at press time that "there are a few table tops and two 10-by-10-foot booths available."

Otherwise, the show is sold out, she said.

The International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), based in London, is an official sponsor of the event, and many of its members will be taking pre- and post-show fam trips in the Fort Lauderdale area, Mikstay noted.

In addition, the organization will hold a member meeting during the show, and there will be a presentation on the findings of a survey, Golf Tourism Trends and New Developments Around the World.

The buyers, she said, are coming from places such as the U.S., U.K., France, Spain, and Portugal as well as Asia, the Middle East, South America, Canada and the Caribbean.

Members of the American Association of Golf Tour Operators, based in Jupiter, Fla., will be well represented among the buyers, Mikstay added.

The exhibitors include convention and visitors bureaus, hotels with golf courses or ready access to them, golf suppliers, airlines and car rental companies.

Attendees will be invited to take part in a golf tournament Dec. 4 at the Bonaventure Golf & Country Club.

Also planned is a networking luncheon Dec. 5, by Visit Florida, the Tallahassee, Fla.-based private-public tourist promotion organization.

A dinner will be sponsored Dec. 5 by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, which also will play host at the pre- and post-show fam tours.
