Grand Bahama Island aiming for agent business

WEST END, Bahamas -- Select properties on Grand Bahama Island are sweetening the pot for travel agents with incentives through the end of the month.

Old Bahama Bay, a 47-room boutique hotel here, is set to open Feb. 1 and is offering a 5% commission override on top of the standard 10%. The 15% commission is valid on rack-rate bookings through March 1. Published nightly rates begin at $199 per room, single or double.

As another incentive, Old Bahama Bay is extending introductory agent rates of $99 per night, single or double, for stays through Feb. 28.

The rate will increase to $150 for stays during March and April and to $135 for May 1 through Dec. 22 stays. For reservations, call (800) 572-5711.

Our Lucaya, which fully opened on Dec. 1, is offering a bonus for bookings through Jan. 31.

To be eligible for the $25 bonus, bookings must be for a minimum of two nights with travel completed by Jan. 31. To receive the bonus, agents must fax a form to (305) 933-9496 with the guest's name, check-in and checkout dates and the resort's confirmation number.

Also hoping to capture more agency business, Grand Bahama Vacations launched the Seven-Seven-Seven promotion.

The special is designed to advise agents about Grand Bahama Vacations' new seasonal nonstop service from Pittsburgh to Grand Bahama. The service began Jan. 12 and will run through May 11.

The promotion, valid only for Pittsburgh-area agents, offers a seven-night vacation for two to agents who book seven passengers (including groups) at the Resort & Casino at Bahamia. The guests must be booked for vacations on Jan. 19, 23, 26 or 30 or Feb. 2, 6 or 9.

The deal is available on new bookings only, and Grand Bahama Vacations will waive any advance-booking restrictions. Packages start at $299 for three nights and $399 for four nights.
