Grupo Posadas in expansion mode

MEXICO CITY--Grupo Posadas, parent of Fiesta Americana resorts and Fiesta Inn hotels, is making significant strides in an expansion effort that includes Mexico and Central America.

In Mexico, the firm opened the 253-room Fiesta Inn Morelia and broke ground on a Fiesta Americana property in Puebla. The initiatives are part of a program to grow the four-star Fiesta Inn lineup with eight new hotels in Mexico by the end of the year and boost the presence of the five-star Fiesta Americana brand.

The $70 million Los Cabos resort is scheduled to open in 1999 with a 250-room hotel. The project eventually is slated to include up to 600 rooms.
