Guadalajara hotel gets refit

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- One of Guadalajara's top hotels just got a makeover.

Camino Real Hotels and Resorts, which is spending more than $50 million to rejuvenate the hotel chain, completed an $8 million renovation of the 205-room Camino Real Guadalajara.

"Camino Real Guadalajara is one of the most recognized hotels in Guadalajara," said Rafael Gonzalez, the hotel's director of sales and marketing.

The goal of the renovation, Gonzalez said, was to "maintain our position as one of the better choices for the discerning business and leisure traveler to Guadalajara."

As part of the refit, all rooms and public spaces were renovated to impart an "authentic Mexican appeal."

In the rooms, the renovations included new furnishings, decor, carpets and light fixtures; new bathrooms with extensive use of marble; new dual-line phones with data ports; and satellite television.

The hotel also created a business center, fitness center, putting green and children's playground.
