HAL launches kids' excursions in Skagway

SKAGWAY -- Holland America Line introduced two Just for Kids shore excursions in Skagway as part of the cruise operator's Club HAL young cruisers' program.

The company offers of eight shore itineraries for "tweenagers" in two levels -- ages 6 to 12 and ages 13 to 18 -- in the ports visited by its six Alaska ships.

The first of the new Skagway offerings is a Skagway Streetcar Wild Ride -- an hourlong excursion through the gold- rush town in a vintage automobile, available to both age groups. The madcap tour is led by a uniformed conductor following the routing and the entertainment style of Skagway inventor and humorist Martin Itjen, the founder of the Skagway Streetcar Co. in 1923. The tour is priced at $24 per person.

The other shore excursion, for $114 per person, is designed more for the older group -- a three-hour Dyea Mountain Bike and Float adventure combining the city tour of Skagway with a mountain-bike ride to nearby Dyea and a float trip on the Tiaya River. Holland America Line, Phone: (800) 426-0327
