HVCB Callers Reach Hawaii

HONOLULU -- Callers to the Hawaii Visitors and Conventions Bureau's toll-free number now talk to operators in Hawaii instead of on the mainland.

Younger Direct, which is contracted to handle HVCB's consumer requests, chose Hawaiian Airlines to operate the phone service here.

"We're fulfilling the promise made last year to have live voices here in Hawaii answering calls," said Paul Casey, HVCB president.

The toll-free number used in consumer advertising -- (800) GO HAWAII -- is manned daily from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time when, according to HVCB, 85% to 90% of calls are made.

Those calling are sent a copy of HVCB's 1997 travel planner, The Islands of Aloha.

The 120-page planner has sections on each of the six islands and includes feature articles on transportation, attractions, golf courses and free activities.
