HONOLULU -- The Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau recently
held its annual recognition meeting for members of its Kuhina, a
meetings and conventions promotion program.
Under the program, individuals with ties to national and
international groups are urged to promote Hawaii's meeting
facilities to out-of-state colleagues.
HVCB lists 14 meetings and conventions on the books for the
Hawaii Convention Center as being "Kuhina-assisted" bookings.
The first was the American Federation of State, County &
Municipal Employees, which brought in 7,000 participants last year.
The two largest still to come are the Lions Club International,
with an estimated 30,000 delegates, booked for 2000, and the
American Bar Association, with 18,000, in 2006.
At the meeting, 40 members of professional and other
associations received awards.
