Halekulani hotel chain hires Shaindlin as COO

HONOLULU -- Halekulani Corp., which owns and operates the Halekulani and the Waikiki Parc hotels on Oahu, hired a new chief operating officer.

Peter Shaindlin replaced Yuri Giga, Halekulani Corp. president and CEO, who will return to Tokyo to work with Mitsui Fudosan, parent company of Halekulani Corp.

Shaindlin said he plans to strengthen Halekulani's relationship with travel agents and wholesalers.

Affluent travelers, he said, are relying more on what he calls "five-star" agents, or those who specialize in high-end properties.

Shaindlin said he wants to hear firsthand what agents say about their clients' hotel and destination experiences.

"We want to protect and preserve our original spirit and character, but at the same time listen to the needs of the contemporary traveler," he said.

Prior to joining Halekulani Corp., Shaindlin was founding principal of Lotus Luxury Group and regional vice president, Caribbean, of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts.
