SAN JUAN -- The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) for the first
time will conduct a major conference in Cuba -- the sixth annual
Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development, to be held
April 27 to 30 at the Habana Libre Hotel in Havana.
Cuba is a CTO member and previously has hosted CTO board
meetings and training programs. However, this conference will
include attendance by U.S. agents and media as well as participants
from a number of Caribbean countries.
Details regarding documentation, travel itineraries and
restrictions, if any, that will be placed on American attendees by
the U.S. Treasury Department are being worked out.
The event will focus on "the impact of land- and sea-based
activities on the sustainability of coastal areas and the resources
necessary for sustainable tourism development," the CTO said.
An addition to this year's conference is the Blue and Green
Tourism Exhibition, where Cuban and Caribbean suppliers will
present products that support sustainable tourism.
The conference precedes the 24th Cuban Tourism Convention, to be
held in Varadero from May 3 to 6.
