Hawaii Activities launches site; pays 10% for bookings, 5% for links

HONOLULU -- A year-old company called Hawaii Activities launched a Web site that enables consumers and travel agents to book tours and activities on line. The system, at www.hawaii-activities.com, is set up so consumers can book on their own or agents can book their clients and earn 10% commissions with 170 companies statewide. An affiliate program pays agents a 5% commission for each booking that comes to Hawaii Activities via a link placed on an agent's Web site.

Hawaii Activities offers a Kauai tour that includes snorkeling and sea kayaking in Hanalei Bay, above. Travel agents do virtually no work for the 5% commission except for placing the link on their site. "Our site is smart enough to know that the booking came through the agent's Web site and it's tracked and a commission is paid," said marketing manager Emily Steele.

"Agents should definitely sign up for both the Web booking where they get 10% and the affiliate program. "With the affiliate program especially, a customer could be just looking at the agent's site, book an activity with us, and the agent would never do any work," said Steele.

Prior to going live with the site, Steele said Hawaii Activities offered bookings via a toll-free phone number. Steele said the most-booked attraction is the Old Lahaina Luau in Lahaina on Maui.
