Hawaii arrivals still are sagging

HONOLULU--With the erosion in Asian markets, Hawaii's visitor arrivals continued to drag in July, despite an increase in mainland visitors.

The state had 626,580 visitors for the month, 1.1% less than in July last year. July mainland visitors, totaling 338,370, increased 8.1%; those arriving eastbound from Asia and the Pacific dropped 9.9%, to 237,400.

For the first seven months, arrivals totaled 3.97 million, down 0.9% from the period last year, with mainland visitors up 5.3% and eastbound visitors down 8.5%.
