OAKVILLE, Ontario -- The 97-room Hilton Garden Inn Toronto/Oakville is looking to lure guests by not raising its rates for the new year. Because the property is relatively new (it opened in late summer) and needs to build business, there are no immediate rate changes planned, according to Cindy Simmons, director of sales.

Rack rates range from about $70 to $92. Simmons added that group rates are negotiable and there is no established minimum group size. Travel agents are invited to stay at this Hilton or any Hilton in Canada for $23.40 per night under the Hilton Canada's Beat the Blues offer, she said.

The property also is trying to entice clients with two getaways that are available through May 31. The Hilton Bounce Back Weekend offers guests a room and buffet breakfast. The plan is priced from $79 per night, single or double.

A romance plan is priced from $99 per couple. Package highlights include an upgraded guest room, champagne and a buffet breakfast. Marquee Hotels owns and manages the Hilton Garden Inn under a franchise agreement with Hilton Inns. The four-story property has a signature glass-walled pavilion housing the reception desk.

There is a Pavilion Pantry that offers a selection of refrigerated, frozen and microwavable packaged items and sundries. The Great American Grill restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and provides room service during meal hours. Also on site are a lounge area with a television and a fireplace; three meetings rooms with 2,400 square feet of flexible space; a 24-hour business center, and a guest laundry.

Guest rooms have a hospitality center containing a microwave oven, a coffeemaker and a minirefrigerator. They also have a sitting area with an easy chair and an ottoman as well as a hair dryer and an iron and ironing board.

Rooms also are equipped to meet the needs of business travelers, who will find a work desk with a pull-out shelf for a portable computer; high-speed Internet access; adjustable lighting; an ergonomic chair; electrical outlets at desk height, and two speaker telephones equipped with dual lines, dataports and voice mail. Recreational facilities consist of a fitness room, an indoor pool and a whirlpool.

The hotel is situated off the Queen Elizabeth Way near the Winston Churchill Boulevard exit. It also is a 15-minute drive west of Pearson Airport and a 20-minute drive from downtown Toronto. The property is near the Oakville Museum and Oakville Center for the Performing Arts, downtown area, the Ford Oakville Assembly Plant and the Xerox Corp.
