Honolulu plans 2nd French fete

HONOLULU--Honolulu will host its second annual French Festival Nov. 7 to 22.

The event is a two-week extravaganza by French and French-affiliated retailers restaurants and hotels. Events will be held at more than 25 locations, including shopping centers, most with free admission.

According to Gov. Ben Cayetano, the festival's honorary chair, last year's event helped many businesses increase sales. More than 30 participants are investing an estimated $2.5 million in the festival. They include Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Tiffany, Lancel, Christian Dior, Cartier, Sonia Rykiel and Celine. A highlight of the event will be a charity fashion gala at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Nov. 14, with the latest collections of French designers shown.

Hotels producing festival events and packages include Outrigger Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Hawaiian Village, the Halekulani and Hawaii Prince Hotel.

Honolulu Academy of Arts' events include tours focusing on its French art collection and a piano recital.

The festival will coincide with the Hawaii International Film Festival, held Nov. 6 to 13, with a series of French films and actors and directors participating. Major sponsors are the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau, First Hawaiian Bank and United Airlines.
