Hoover Dam introduces Discovery Tour

LAS VEGAS -- A new Discovery Tour is being offered at Hoover Dam.

The tour provides an overview of the contributions of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to the development of the West as well as a lecture on the history and purpose of the dam and a presentation about the development of the Colorado River.

Tours are available from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. daily, except on Thanksgiving and Christmas, but are restricted to the dam's exterior facilities, sightseeing areas and visitor center.

Tours inside the dam have been suspended since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.

Visitors are advised to sign up before 3 p.m. to allow enough time to see the entire facility. The visitor center closes at 5 p.m.

Admission is $10 for adults ages 17 through 61; $8 for senior citizens ages and older as well as members of the military and their dependents, and $4 for children ages 7 through 16.

Children ages 6 and younger are admitted free.
