Hotel expansions, new resort in works on Grenada

ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada -- Hotel room inventory in Grenada will total almost 2,000 rooms by year's end, according to officials at the Grenada Board of Tourism.

Three properties will expand their present facilities, and a new hotel is planned for Grand Anse Beach.

Spice Island Beach Resort will close from May 15 to Nov. 1 in order to add 10 new suites, bringing its room count to 66.

The project also includes rebuilding the resort's entrance, reception area, dining room and bar.

Renovations also are planned for 22 suites as well as the resort's swimming pool, Jacuzzi and therapeutic massage pool.

The Gems Holiday Beach Resort on Morne Rouge will add a 50-room annex, a restaurant, a beach bar, a tennis court and a swimming pool by the end of the year.

The 186-room Grenada Grand Beach Resort will add 50 more rooms by early next year.

Already completed under a refurbishment and expansion project are a miniature golf course; a conference center; a pool, and an upgrade of the lobby, guest rooms and restaurant.

A 104-room hotel on the Grand Anse site of the former Silver Sands Hotel is planned for later this year.
