Hotel group's latest offering an all-suite affair

PAGET, Bermuda -- Bermuda Resort Hotels opened the Wharf Executive Suites Hotel on Darrell's Wharf, a seven-minute ferry ride across Hamilton Harbor from downtown.

The property features 10 executive suites and five one-bedroom suites. The units are rented on a nightly or extended-stay basis, according to Billy Griffith, president of the Paget-based hotel group and the immediate past president of the Bermuda Hotel Association.

The Wharf is operating at about 50% occupancy so far, Griffith said. The units are rented on a nightly or extended-stay basis.

He described the executive suites as "oversized rooms" with work centers and a galley kitchen. In-suite amenities include a desk, an ergonomic chair, a two-line speakerphone, high-speed Internet access, a fax machine, a printer and a copier. Concierge service also is available.

Rates for executive suites are $210, single, and $225, double, through Oct. 31; and $195, single, and $210, double, from Nov. 1 through March 1. The one-bedroom suites cost $375, single, and $395, double, through Oct. 31; and $350, single, and $370, double, Nov. 1 through March 1.

For leisure clients, the hotel group offers the 68-room Harmony Beach Club in Paget -- Bermuda's only inclusive resort -- and the 44-room Surf Side Beach Club in Warwick. All three properties pay 10% commission, Griffith said.

As an added incentive to retailers, Griffith said, the Harmony Beach Club's Harmony Bucks program, applicable on stays of three nights and longer completed by Oct. 31, gives agents a $50 bonus commission per booking. The bonus also applies to agents using a wholesaler.

Wholesalers offering the Harmony Club include Apple Vacations, Delta Vacations, Gogo Worldwide Vacations, Magic Carpet Vacations, TNT Vacations, Travel Impressions and US Airways Vacations.

Agents and wholesalers provide about 70% of the Harmony Club's business, Griffith said.

Harmony Club rates are from $159 per person, double, through Oct. 31, and from $139 from Nov. 1 to April 15. Rates cover rooms, all meals, unlimited open bar, use of beach facilities, taxes and tips.

At the five-acre Surf Side Beach Club, accommodations consist of suites, cottage and luxury apartments, each with a balcony or patio overlooking the ocean. The Penthouse West suite costs $500 per night and sleeps up to four.

At a cost of $5 million, Surf Side added the Cliffside Suites, three luxury, three-bedroom apartments priced from $850 per night for six guests. They have a sitting room; dining room; open fireplace; full kitchen; private, wraparound balcony and ocean views.

A deluxe Cliffside room costs $350 per night, double; two-bedroom suites cost $600 (up to quad occupancy). Breakfast and dinner are included through May.
