Hotels keep pace with business travel

NEW YORK -- In an effort to keep pace with the demands of today's business travelers, many hotels here have renovated their meetings facilities and upgraded their technology.

The following is a look at a few of the city's top business hotels.

  • The New York Hilton and Towers, at 1335 Sixth Ave. (between 53rd and 54th streets) is the city's largest hotel, with 2,041 rooms, including 95 suites.
  • The hotel recently added 10 meeting rooms and expanded other meetings spaces for a total of more than 130,000 square feet.

    It features 7,500 square feet of dedicated meeting space on the fourth floor, including a videoconference facility and a boardroom, plus a new 8,200-square-foot facility with eight meeting rooms on the Concourse Level.

    The new meeting space is in addition to the Hilton's four ballrooms and the redesigned Grand Ballroom.

  • The New York Marriott Marquis, at 1535 Broadway (between 45th and 46th streets), is one of the chain's most successful business hotels, according to Marriott.
  • Evidence of this is seen daily at the hotel's Encore restaurant, which ranks as the busiest restaurant in Marriott's worldwide chain, the company said.

    The hotel features more than 100,000 square feet of meeting and function space, including 54 meeting rooms, four ballrooms, an exhibition area and a dedicated business center.

  • The Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, at 811 Seventh Ave. (between W. 52nd and 53rd streets), features one of the city's most technologically sophisticated executive conference centers.
  • The center features 43 meeting rooms offering a total of more than 55,000 square feet of space and accommodating up to 2,500 people.

    Club-level rooms, on the higher floors, are oriented toward the business traveler, with fax/printer/copiers; two-line phones with voice mail and data ports, and separate check-in.
