Hotels, operators lower prices, add features to hike Mexico bookings

NEW YORK -- Lower prices and added features are among the booking incentives offered by Mexican hotels and tour operators this summer.

The following is a rundown of what is available.

  • Pleasant Holidays added spa options to its offerings south of the border.
  • Pleasant Mexico Holidays' spa packages are valid at a number of properties in Mexico through Dec. 16.

    In Cancun, hotels that have partnered with Pleasant include Le Meridien Cancun and Royal Hideaway Resort Playacar.

    Other properties are:

    In Los Cabos, Casa del Mar Golf Resort & Spa, Melia Los Cabos and Pueblo Bonito Rose.

    The Mayan pyramid-shaped Melia Turquesa Hotel in Cancun launched an inclusive program. In Mazatlan, El Cid Mega Resort -- Castilla Beach Hotel, Hotel Granada Country Club and Marina El Cid Beach Hotel & Yacht Club.

    In Manzanillo, Karmina Palace Golf & Spa Resort.

    In Puerto Vallarta, Hotelito Desconocido, Velas Vallarta Grand Suites Resort and Paradise Village Beach Resort & Spa.

    Spa inclusions vary by hotel, but each package includes treatments for men and women such as body wraps, salt scrubs, mud baths, exfoliation, massages and deep-cleansing facials.

    Some packages also include unlimited use of spa facilities and participation in classes such as yoga, step, aerobics and kick boxing.

    Pleasant's spa holidays are valid with any room category, although each property has a minimum-night requirement.

    A two-night, land-only holiday starts at $206 per person, double.

    The price covers roundtrip airport transfers, accommodations, all hotel taxes and surcharges and on-site assistance from Pleasant's customer service representatives.

  • SunTrips is featuring the renovated beachfront El Cozumeleno in packages.
  • The inclusive property is located on the north part of Cozumel and offers two pools, a gym, a children's pool and play area, miniature golf, two restaurants, bars, a disco and an on-site dive shop.

    Inclusive packages, including roundtrip air fare, roundtrip transfers and three-nights' accommodations, are available from $519 per person, double.

    Travel agents receive up to 14% commission on SunTrips' bookings.

  • The Melia Turquesa Hotel in Cancun created an inclusive plan valid through Dec. 24, 2001.
  • The nightly rate starts at $105 per person, double, and includes deluxe accommodations, a daily breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet, domestic drinks from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., theme parties, the use of a safe-deposit box, unlimited use of tennis courts and room taxes.

    Children ages 8 and younger stay for free (limit two children per room with two paying adults).

    The hotel also continues to offer a European Plan upon request.

    The 11-story Melia Turquesa hotel is a Mayan pyramid-shaped structure with 450 rooms and suites that offer a water view.

    A daily activities program for children ages 4 to 12 includes sand castle-building contests, painting and bingo.

    The resort is a 20-minute drive from the Cancun Airport and close to area attractions.

  • Gogo Worldwide Vacations reduced package prices to certain Mexican destinations.
  • In Cancun, the operator cut package prices by up to 30% at the Hilton Cancun.

    A three-night package at the hotel starts at $186 per person, double, through Aug. 31.

    Also, kids under 18 stay free in their parents' room, and guests are guaranteed tee times in advance of their arrival once the booking is made.

    Also in Cancun, clients receive a free night when they purchase a four-night package at the Krystal Cancun.

    In Puerto Vallarta, a four-night package at the Hotelito Desconocido costs $679 per person, double, through Aug. 31, a savings of 25% compared with the high-season rate.

  • American Airlines Vacations is offering 10,000 AAdvantage bonus miles per booking on packages to the Caribbean and Mexico.
  • In Mexico, the promotion applies to flights to Acapulco, Cancun, Cozumel, Guadalajara, Los Cabos, Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta.

    The Mexico and Caribbean bonus miles are available on vacations booked through July 31 for travel to Mexico between Aug. 1 and Nov. 30, and for travel to the Caribbean between Aug. 1 and Nov. 15.
