Hotels rebound from Lenny

NEW YORK -- Hotels in the Caribbean have started to reopen following Hurricane Lenny's visit in November.

Hotel Guanahani on St. Barts reopened Dec. 5. The resort's general manager, Marc Theze, said the most visible sign that Lenny paid a visit to the island is around the harbor, where trees and vegetation are gone. He also said all the shops and restaurants are open.

The Hotel Carl Gustaf reopened on Dec. 13, and the Sofitel Christopher reopened Dec. 20.

La Samanna in St. Martin is looking at a Feb. 26 reopening. The hotel reported flooding in the main building and some villas as well as landscape damage and beach erosion.

Le Meridien L'Habitation reopened Dec. 17. A Le Meridien official said bookings were strong.

The Four Seasons Nevis has not scheduled a firm reopening date.
