NEW YORK -- Hurricane Fabian, a Category 4 storm packing winds of 135 mph, spared the Caribbean, but continued its slow turn to the northwest on a track that could take it near Bermuda this weekend.

The closest that Fabian's 30-mile-wide eye got was approximately 225 miles north-northeast of St. Martin, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Puerto Rico and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands Wednesday issued coastal flood watches as a precaution against high waves and rough surf from the storm.
