NEW YORK -- After ravaging the Caribbean, Hurricane Ivan made landfall at Gulf Shores, Ala., early Thursday as a Category 3 hurricane and continued northeastward, bringing wind, rain and tornadoes to Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina.

Beau Rivage Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Miss., closed following an evacuation order from Harrison County officials, but a spokeswoman of the Public Works department in Biloxi said on Thursday afternoon that the resort had apparently sustained little damage and planned to reopen Friday.

The storm has passed and the sun is shining. Its hot. We have some limbs down, were picking up some trees that have crossed over the road, but theres no major damage, no flooding, she said.

Harrahs New Orleans closed Tuesday evening as a precaution as the storm approached, but reopened Thursday evening after the storm passed by.

Beverly Gianna, vice president of public affairs of the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau said New Orleans had been spared the brunt of the storm. Everything is operational, she said. There is no damage, not a bit. Were supposed to have some of the best weather ever in the next few days.
