Iberostar has upscale plans for latest property

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico -- The Iberostar Paraiso Hotel Group plans to open its sixth hotel in Mexico in November, the 446-room Iberostar Paraiso Lindo.

The $50 million-plus property will be situated next to the Iberostar Paraiso Beach, which is adjacent to the Iberostar Paraiso del Mar.

"The Iberostar Paraiso del Mar and Ibero-star Paraiso Beach have experienced tremendous success, and we are growing to meet demand," said Manuel Borja, general manager of Iberostar Hotel Group.

John Long, vice president of sales for Iberostar, said Paraiso Lindo will be a more upscale version of its sister all-inclusive resorts.

"What we've found is that as long as we continue to build up in quality, the marketplace responds well to it," Long said. "We won't price ourselves out of the market, but we will price the new resort so that what the client pays matches the increased level of features and amenities."

Rates at Paraiso Lindo will be about 20% higher than at its sister properties.

Long said the new resort will feature five three-story, bungalow-style buildings surrounded by courtyards and gardens.

"Each building is designed to resemble a small village square," Long said. "The designers created the feeling of a small inn, but the property will have all the amenities and luxuries of a big resort."

Paraiso Lindo's rooms will be larger than those at its sisters, and units will feature foyers and separate entrances for the bedrooms.

All rooms will have marble bathrooms with showers, satellite TVs, coffeemakers, complimentary minibars, direct-dial telephones and safety-deposit boxes.

Two presidential suites and 14 of the resort's 62 junior suites will offer Jacuzzi-style bathtubs.

In keeping with the Paraiso Lindo's upscale intentions, its five restaurants will offer a la carte menus and will include a steakhouse, a continental restaurant and eateries specializing in Asian, Cajun and Italian cooking.

Paraiso Lindo guests also will have dine-around privileges at the sister properties, although the privilege will not be reciprocal for guests of the other two resorts.

Long said Iberostar will open a conference center with room for more than 1,000 people on the grounds of the Paraiso Lindo in the fall of 2004. An 18-hole golf course is scheduled to open by winter 2005.
