Starting Dec. 26, Northwest Airlines will launch daily nonstop service between Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

Between Dec. 26 and Jan. 5, the flights will be operated with 100-seat DC-9 aircraft; starting Jan. 6, with 148-seat Airbus 320 aircraft.

The flights will be timed to connect to the carrier's nonstop service between Los Angeles and Tokyo's Narita airport, with continuing service to Bangkok; Beijing; Pusan, South Korea; Hong Kong; Manila, the Philippines; Nagoya, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; Shanghai; Singapore, and Taipei, Taiwan.

The carrier, which also launched daily nonstop service from Milwaukee to Las Vegas in July, will add a second nonstop flight on that route from Feb. 12 through April 30.

The new service will use Airbus A319/320 aircraft, which can accommodate 148 people and 124 people, respectively.

America West Airlines added service from its Las Vegas hub to St. Louis on Oct. 26 and will add service from Las Vegas to Billings, Mont., and Des Moines, Iowa, on Nov. 26 and Dec. 19, respectively.

Flights to and from St. Louis use the 737-300, which can accommodate 134 passengers, while the Billings service will be provided by America West Express and operated by a subsidiary airline of Mesa Air Group using the 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet.

Las Vegas-Des Moines service also will be provided by America West Express and operated by Mesa Air group using the new 80-seat Canadair Regional Jet.

With all this new service, America West will serve more than 40 destinations from its Las Vegas hub, with 92 daily departures.

Sunday and Thursday flights from Rockford are scheduled through Dec. 28, while service from Syracuse will be offered Mondays and Fridays through Dec. 29.

Also through Dec. 29, Toledo outbound service will occur Mondays and Fridays, with returns on Tuesdays and Fridays.

From Sanford, flights will run Sundays and Thursdays through Dec. 28.

Over at the Flamingo Las Vegas, Tia Rhodes was named vice president of hotel operations.

Rhodes, who formerly served as assistant vice president of rooms at Caesars Palace, now will be responsible for managing the daily function of hotel operations, including overseeing budgets and conducting property inspections.

Tickets are now on sale for illusionist Steve Wyrick, the Aladdin Resort & Casino's newest headliner.

Wyrick, who just finished a three-year engagement at the Sahara Hotel and Casino and recently was named Magician of the Year by the International Magicians' Society, will debut his new show, which replaces the topless revue "X," on Nov. 21 in the new Steve Wyrick Theater.

Formerly known as the Aladdin's CenterStage Showroom, the venue was expanded and redesigned and will be able to accommodate up to 500.

Wyrick's 90-minute show will be performed daily at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., except Tuesdays.
