Israel Market draws record number of participants

TEL AVIV, Israel -- Exhibitors from more than 20 countries attended the sixth annual Israel Mediterranean Tourism Market early last month at the Israel Trade Fair & Exhibition Center in this city's suburbs.

An estimated 2,600 travel professionals and 7,000 consumers also attended. The record number of participating countries and entities was reported to be nearly double last year's and included Jordan and the Palestinian Authority.

In addition, the tourism authorities of Morocco and Tunisia reportedly sent letters expressing their intention to attend next year.

Participants included regional associations, resort and vacation sites, active destinations, hotels, car rental companies, airlines, cruise lines, tour bus companies and limousine services from Israel and neighboring Middle East countries as well as from Europe, North Africa, the Far East and the West.

The fair was held under the auspices of the Israel Ministry of Tourism, El Al Israel Airlines, the Israel Hotel Association and the Association for Tourism Tel Aviv-Jaffa.

It was organized by Ortra, one of the country's major congress and exhibition organizers, and Israel Travel News, Israel's only major publishing house specializing in tourism.
