Israel hotels expect to be ready by 2000

NEW YORK -- A new property and an expanded one are expected to be ready for the turn of the millennium, according to one Holy Land chain.

The Royal Plaza Israel Hotels & Resorts said its new Jerusalem property will open by the end of the summer. The $23 million hotel, with 307 rooms and suites, will be in walking distance of the Old City and its religious sites.

The hotel will feature biblical motifs and house an indoor swimming pool, a health and fitness spa and a convention center. A major addition is being made to the chain's 160-room Tiberias property that is expected to be ready by April.

A $1 million complex will add a Royal Spa with a Jacuzzi-equipped health club, six treatment rooms, a sauna and an aerobics studio. It will also house a swimming pool with a children's area that can will be partly outdoors; the indoor section will be enclosed for the winter. The Cafe Mozart in the lobby has been completed.

In Jerusalem, a $200,000 refurbishment of the penthouse and 100 suites of the Lev Yerushalayim apartment hotel in downtown Jerusalem is under way.

In Eilat, the chain plans to build a 250-room property in the Park of Palms area. The 2-year-old chain intends to have 600 rooms and suites ready in the Holy Land by 2000.
