Jacksonville seeks African-American family reunions

JACKSONVILLE -- The Jacksonville Convention & Visitors Bureau launched an ad campaign aimed at draw-

ing family reunion business from the African-American sector.

Jacksonville CVB officials unveiled the new campaign to the Inter-American Travel Agents Society. This organization -- which has a large African-American membership -- convened here April 28 to May 2.

The ads, which will run all year in African-American publications, provide information on planning reunions and explain why the Jacksonville area can add "spice" to the events. The agents also toured the area.

In an announcement before the agent group met, Kitty Ratcliffe, bureau president, said, "Family reunions are a very good niche for us, and we are ex-cited about this new ad campaign. The ads will cite everything we can offer family reunion planners -- from accommodations to cultural attractions."

In conjunction with the effort, the bureau produced a guide, Passages, with information on multicultural activities. Guide requests can be directed to Larry Walter, director of the bureau's multicultural department. Jacksonville & the Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau 201 E.
