Jamaica resort adds teen center to kids club

OCHO RIOS, Jamaica -- The Renaissance Jamaica Grande relaunched its Club Mongoose children's center, highlighted by the addition of a teen center with computer stations that offer e-mail access.

Other new club facilities include a waterslide and puddle pool, a swinging-rope bridge, an outdoor and indoor stage and a kidsize snack bar.

Activities include steel pan drum lessons and a visit to a local school. Children also can participate in nature walks, reggae dance classes and arts and crafts activities.

Club Mongoose is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for kids ages 2 to 12. The newly refitted teen center is open to guests ages 13 to 19 from 7:30 a.m. to midnight.

The property is looking to lure families with its Sand Dollars Bonus package.

The inclusive package offers deluxe accommodations; a $200 credit that applies to the room rate; all food and beverages at select restaurants, with unlimited house-brand cocktails and wine and beer by the glass; room service; use of the tennis courts and health club; nonmotorized water sports, and all taxes and gratuities.

Up to two children under age 12 stay and eat free when sharing a room with a parent.

Rates for the Sand Dollars Bonus package start at $310, per room, per night, based on double occupancy. The package requires a four-night minimum stay for travel through Dec. 21.

The 708-room property has a casino, duty-free shops, five restaurants, eight bars, four tennis courts lighted for night play and a fitness center.

Scuba diving, snorkeling, water skiing, jet skiing and windsurfing are available through the resort's on-site Jamaica Grande Watersports Center. Golf, horseback riding, polo and river rafting are offered nearby.

The Renaissance Jamaica Grande Resort is a member of the Marriott & Renaissance Offshore Resorts group. Clients who take advantage of the Sand Dollar Bonus package also will earn Marriott Rewards points.
