Jersey City hotel takes on N.Y. rivals

JERSEY CITY -- This city's newest hotel is planning to give the Big Apple a run for its money.

The Candlewood Suites Jersey City-Exchange Place is pitching itself as an affordable alternative to Manhattan's high-priced hotels.

Rates at the Candlewood Suites Jersey City range from $159 to $219, depending on season and length of stay.

The Candlewood property, located in Jersey City's financial district, also offers easy access to New York via the PATH subway system.

The eight-story property has 214 suites with 160 studios and 54 one-bedroom units.

All rooms feature a fully equipped kitchen, oversized work areas, two phone lines with data ports, a television, CD player and hair dryer.

To lure travelers, the hotel offers incentives such as free parking and free use of the on-site laundry facilities.

The hotel said guests will not be charged for local and toll-free calls.

Guests can borrow movies and CDs from the front desk for use in their rooms
