KAPALUA -- The Kapalua Bay Hotel in Maui is extending its family summer programs through Sept. 30 to accommodate parents traveling with their children. Both free and discounted activities can be found on property.

Children ages 5 to 16 enrolled in the Kapalua Keiki Club program have free use of the hotel's golf facilities, tennis courts and snorkeling equipment. They also receive free tours of the active pineapple plantation that surrounds the hotel.

Crafts classes will also keep the youngsters busy with activities like lei making and ceramic painting.

Two complimentary, one-hour golf clinics are offered each week for children of all ages at the Kapalua Golf Academy, and kids can then join parents on the Village Course from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily (children play for free when accompanied by a paying adult).

Tennis clinics are available for children twice a week, and discounts on racquets and shoes are available. The courts are lighted for evening play.

Kids under age 12 eat at the breakfast buffet for free when accompanied by a paying adult, and an offer of 50% off on an adjoining room is extended to those who pay rack rates (beginning at $390 per night).

The Keiki Day Program is offered at 15% off to guests paying the rack rate and is aimed at children ages 5 to 10.

The program, located at the Art School at Kapalua, encourages children to translate their impressions of the beauty of Hawaii into works of art.

Activities include arts and crafts lessons, yoga, nature walks and water sports. The program costs $60 per day per child; 24-hour advance reservation is mandatory.

Teens ages 11 through 16 can take part in the Adventure Seven Program (also for $60 per day, per child).

Ocean safety classes begin the day, followed by options that include horseback riding, beach activities, surf lessons, kayaking or snorkeling.
