KAPAA -- Kayak Kauai Outbound introduced a six-night adventure tour of Kauai.

The move is likely the first by a Hawaii-based adventure firm to package wilderness hikes and ocean activities with accommodations.

Called the Kauai Discovery Tour and offered weekly, it features six nights of beachfront accommodations, daily activities, meals and airport transfers.

It begins on Saturday afternoons with van pickup at Lihue Airport and ends the following Friday. The first three nights are at the Wilcox Estate, which has a historical main house and cottage units, at Hanalei on the north shore.

The last three nights are at Waimea Plantation Cottages, operated by Aston Hotels & Resorts, at Waimea on the south shore.

The tour includes:

* A full day's Sunday hike along the Na Pali coast on the north shore.

* On Mondays, river kayaking, followed by a tour of the Kilauea National Wildlife Refuge, Hawaii's best-known seabird sanctuary, then snorkeling at Anini Beach.

* On Tuesdays, the Wailua River, with a combination kayak and hiking tour.

* Sea kayaking takes place on Wednesdays, either along the Na Pali (May through September), Kipu Kai on the south shore (October through April) or Anini Reef (year-round).

* Thursdays are spent at Kokee State Park, beginning with a visit to the Kokee Natural History Museum, followed by a hike of the trails.

* On Fridays, the last hike begins in Kokee and continues to Waimea Canyon State Park.

According to Chino Godnez, owner and head guide of the Kauai-based company, all the activities are "soft" adventure except sea kayaking, which requires four to six hours of intermittent paddling.

Those buying the adventure tour can substitute another activity for sea kayaking.

Clients have a range of options, including a helicopter tour, scuba and game fishing, which can be purchased at the net price paid by the company.

"We've combined an adventure tour with comfortable accommodations," Godnez said of the company's first venture into packaging tours with accommodations.

The Discovery Tour costs $1,350 per person, double or single, sharing accommodations.

Kayak Kauai also offers a number of commissionable day adventures.

Prices start at $55 for its Blue Lagoon package, which includes a three-hour guided kayak tour of the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge and snorkeling.

The most expensive option is sea kayaking, for $130.

The company, with locations at Kapaa and Hanalei, also rents gear for hiking and camping, bikes, kayaks, canoes, snorkel and other activity equipment.
