Kauai to host millennium program

LARKSPUR, Calif. -- Avalon Travel offers the Kauai Millennium Celebration, a six-day program, Dec. 28 through Jan. 2. Inner Voyages and New Age Publishing are cosponsors of the event, which takes place at Kauai Sunspree Resort.

The program will include a New Year's Eve dinner, workshop presentations by Hawaii elders and healing practitioners, small group sessions and nightly entertainment.

Hikers in Waimea Canyon. Tours also will be offered, including trips to ancient heiau (temples) and a Hindu monastery, a beach excursion and a hike through Waimea Canyon.

Speakers will include Kahu Abraham, a Hawaiian spiritual practitioner; authors Shakti Gawain and Alan Cohen, and anthropologist Hank Wesselman.

Prices start at $1,999 per person, double, with a garden- view room at Kauai Sunspree for five nights, most meals, all programs and entertainment, plus a choice of one land excursion. Family rates are available.

Avalon Travel will pay a commission/referral fee of $150 per paying adult ($50 when other accommodations are booked).

New York-based Inner Voyages develops cruises and conferences; New Age Publishing, based in Watertown, Mass., produces the magazine New Age: The Journal of Holistic Living.

Karol Avalon, Avalon Travel president, said Kauai, like Sedona, Ariz., is a very spiritual place. Avalon said she has been offering Sedona cultural and educational tours for three years and plans to develop more Kauai programs, including plans for small groups. Two hundred people have registered for the millennium celebration, and 400 are expected to participate, Avalon said.

Also planned is the Kauaifest for October 2000, a similar but expanded program using several hotels over a 12-day period with a choice of dates and options.
