KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Wilson World Hotel Maingate, with 442 rooms, became the Red Roof Inn Resort at Maingate following its purchase by Diplomat Hotel Corp., Atlanta.

The inn, at 7941 W. Irlo Bronson Highway, is Diplomat Hotel Corp.'s first hotel in Florida, said Robert Frobish, general manager of the family-oriented Kissimmee inn.

A $2.5 million renovation, now in progress, calls for the creation of at least 25 kids suites by mid-January, he said. These units will cost about 30% more than the inn's low- and high-season rates, which are $79 and $99 per unit, respectively, Frobish said.

The low season is January, May, September to the week before Thanksgiving and the post-Thanksgiving period to just before Christmas, he added.

The suites will consist of a queen or king bed for the parents and a walled-off children's area containing two beds with a Sony Playstation, a television and sports decor. An additional 25 suites may be added, he said.

The overall refurbishment, to be completed by early February, in addition to the rooms involves the landscaping, corridors and the atrium lobby.
