La. casino reopens as Harrah's

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- The former Players Lake Charles Casino here reopened as Harrah's Lake Charles.

The property, located in the southwest part of the state a two-hour drive from Houston, changed hands in March when Harrah's completed its acquisition of Players International Inc. for $425 million.

The property's newly refurbished, 60,000-square-foot Star Casino offers 900 new slot machines, which brings the casino's total to more than 1,500 slot machines; a new boarding area; a new themed table games area known as the Celebrity Room, and Cafe Bong Sen, a new Asian restaurant.

Like Harrah's 20 other U.S. casinos, the Lake Charles facility also features Harrah's Total Rewards, the player loyalty program that offers cash, comps and tiered status on a national basis.
