ROME -- Clients looking for bed-and-breakfast accommodations in the
Eternal City can do so through a company called Latte e Miele
B&B, which is based here.
The year-and-a-half-old company -- whose name means "milk and
honey" -- features a range of accommodations in private homes or
self-catering apartments suitable for families. The accommodations
are commissionable at levels from 5% to 20%, based on prior
agreement, the company said, and net pricing is available.
"B&B is a new formula of hospitality in Italy, and it is
growing very fast, especially in Rome for the Jubilee," said
company president Renato Mario Carusone, referring to the papal
designation for the year leading up to the millennium.
Describing the rooms and apartments as characteristic of Roman
architecture, Carusone said most are in ancient buildings in the
historical center of Rome. "We personally choose accommodations
that are close to public transportation -- either the bus, tram or
metro -- which we consider a very important detail for tourists,"
he said. "Some rooms are furnished with antiques and feature high
wooden ceilings and beautiful views."
Accommodations are available for the Jubilee year, Carusone
said, citing two properties in central Rome. "One is a nine-room
B&B in the highest category, in the Via del Corso, in the heart
of the city," he said.
The other, a six-room property, is located just behind the
Colosseum. "We also will have many small, self-catered apartments
and one- to three-bedroom bed-and-breakfast accommodations with
private or shared bathrooms at low prices all over central Rome,"
Carusone said. Prices begin at $37 per person, per night. Advance
reservations are suggested.
The company also features a selection of properties in Florence,
in central Italy and in the Lake Bracciano region, just north of
Rome. A bedroom with shared bath is priced from about $62, double;
with private bath, from about $74, double. A luxury room with
private bath starts at $93, double.
