Le Meridien to unveil Cancun property

CANCUN, Mexico--Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts is preparing to unveil its first Mexico resort.

The company is planning an October opening for Le Meridien Cancun, a beachfront property bordered by the Caribbean Sea and the Nichupte Lagoon. The resort will have a boutique-style hotel with a casually elegant ambience, according to Le Meridien. The decor, cuisine and service will aim to provide the traditional Meridien style of French and European touches while reflecting the culture of Cancun and Mexico.

The property will have 218 rooms and suites with views of the Caribbean or the lagoon. A central feature of the resort will be a spa with a full lineup of services. Among the other facilities will be three swimming pools linked by waterfalls and two lighted tennis courts.

Two dining venues will be featured as well as a bar and a lobby lounge. For families, the property will offer a supervised children's program with a clubhouse, play equipment and a wading pool. Group facilities will include a ballroom accommodating up to 200 people and four smaller function rooms as well as outdoor venues.

Five upscale boutiques will round out the offerings at the property.

The firm said Le Meridien Cancun mainly will target upscale, individual, leisure clients from the U.S. market as well as a significant share of Europeans.

Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts is part of Forte Hotels, which has a portfolio of more than 260 properties, including a worldwide network of approximately 90 Meriden hotels, the firm's leading international brand.
