Long Island hotel gets makeover

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Manhattan-based Apple Core Hotels converted the former Best Western Hotel & Conference Center here into the Quality Hotel & Convention Center.

The 182-room hotel, about a 10-minute drive from Kennedy Airport, is in the midst of a $2 million renovation that includes new bathrooms and enhancements to the conference and banquet facilities.

"Once the renovations are completed, this property will look and feel like a brand new hotel," said Vijay Dandapani, chief operating officer at Apple Core.

With 16,000 square feet of meetings facilities and banquet space for 2,000 guests, the property is the largest hotel conference facility on Long Island, according to Apple Core.

In conjunction with the renovation, the hotel's switch in brand affiliation is aimed at raising its profile in Long Island's competitive meetings market, the company said.

Located in a key business district in Nassau County, the Quality Hotel is close to Nassau Coliseum, Hofstra University, Adelphi University and several corporate headquarters. A Long Island Railroad station is a five-minute walk from the hotel.

Daily rates range from $69 to $199 per room, double.

Rooms are equipped with dual-line phones with voice mail and data ports, large work desks with ergonomic chairs, cable TV, irons and ironing boards, hair dryers and coffeemakers.

Complimentary services include regularly scheduled shuttles to Kennedy Airport and morning newspapers.

The Quality Hotel & Convention Center is one of six properties owned and operated by Apple Core. In Manhattan, the company operates the Best Western Manhattan, the Quality Hotel & Suites Midtown, the Quality Hotel East Side, the Comfort Inn Midtown and the Red Roof Inn Manhattan.
